She uses them frozen and finds good relief. I use mine heated to help with stiffness and pain and also find relief. The inner gel slides around so it is not safe to WALK in these, but they work great while sitting or laying down. Someone suggested rolling up socks in them prior to freezing so they freeze with room for your feet and that is a tip I would also recommend.
