The 3rd gen also has the same design flaw as the 4K for multi-speaker setups, in that it sends stereo content to the receiver in a 5.1 "wrapper" that the receiver can't process using, e.g., Dolby ProLogic; the only workaround is to set "Surround Sound" to "Dolby Digital" which has the side effect of downgrading Dolby Digital Plus content to the lower-fidelity legacy format. This flaw has been known since at least the end of 2018 yet Amazon purposefully built it into its latest device. **Q: Is this 3rd gen 4K or just HD** A: Unless you have a 4K television and the content you're watching was shot in 4K, then you're only going to be viewing HD anyway so you may as well get the 3rd gen stick with the updated security, etc. Everyone is always all over the 4K simply because it says 4K but unless you have a 4K display to watch the 4K video, you're not getting 4K anyway. And most 4K televisions are not true 4K anyway. **Q: What comes with it?** A: This fire stick lower performance than my old first generation firestick. I would not buy this again. with the new fire stick my stereo sounded less powerful. it seemed like the out put or frequency coming from the stick was lower than my old fire stick (less power or what ever) I put back on the old stick and my stereo sounded great again. To me the new one is just lower end or just junk. **Q: Will this support full 4k and HDR content or is that only on the 2 gen?** A: This is a 1080p streaming stick which works just fine with 4k TV. In fact if you use it with a 4k smart TV the TV itself up scales any 1080 p content to 4k resolution. So instead of using the factory 4k streaming apps provided by your smart TV manufacturer you use the 1080p fire stick and you will be surprised to find your data usage is far less than using the 4k streaming apps and you will still view content in 4k because of the 1080 up scaling processor. The reason for up scaling 1080p images to 4k is because network digital broadcasts in 1808p still at this point. So you can experience 4k without streaming in 4k. Try it and see for yourself. Definitely worth it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for streaming *by N***N on September 2, 2024* I have had Firesticks for several years now and they are a very good option for streaming. The first few sticks I had didn't last as long as the newer versions but that is likely due to advances in technology. It comes with all the things you need to get it up and running immediately, even batteries for the remote. The OS is user friendly and works very well. It makes sense how its laid out is easy to navigate. Something else I like about it is that it is an android based OS so there are developer options which allow you more opportunity for customizing your experience. In the past the most common issues Ive had with it are the OS slowing down. There is 5gb of internal storage on it and it can get bogged down if you have a lot going on. Over time I notice there is a delay in the responsiveness to remote commands. Resetting the device does improve the lagging for a short period of time but it isn't a permanent fix and it never goes back to how it ran when it was brand new...just a little less lag. In my experience these devices will last several years before needing to be replaced. In my opinion, that is a great bang for your buck. Something else great about them is that you can find them on sale all throughout the year on amazon. There are also numerous areas for support on the amazon site as well as live customer service to help if you need it. I have used other streaming devices before but keep coming back to these. One side note....we have phillps hue ecosystem for our lights and use the hue sync box to control the lights to match the colors on the screen. We bought the 4k stick and it wasn't compatible with the hue sync box. Our sync box is several years old so perhaps the newer ones have a patch that fixes the issue but we weren't able to use the 4k stick with our hue sync box. The HD stick works just fine with our setup. I will say that there was a noticeable picture and audio quality difference with the 4k stick, but not being able to work with our lights was a deal breaker for me. Overall I would recommend this device for anyone.
