She understood the cards, because they read in the first person (for example, "I am tobacco"), as saying that the person reading them equated the essence of the card with him or herself.The LWB does say that growth in wisdom gets you to a point where you do identify yourself with the elements of the deck, understanding the "oneness" of creation, but as a beginner, I read the cards as talking from the perspective of the plant, animal, rock, tree, direction, time they portray, telling you what they are. This reminds me of how the elements speak to the shaman, identifying the element's nature and purpose.Also the reviewer of the deck took offence that people might think that they were a shaman or practicing shamanism simply because they use the deck. However, they are shaman WISDOM cards, and I read that as meaning that they impart to the reader some of the wisdom a shaman might identify with each of the elements on the card.I became sold on the deck when a shamanic practitoner (practitioner meaning she practices some activities associated with a shaman -- she herself is not a shaman) friend of mine did a reading with these cards before leading us in a blessing of our teepee. The 3 cards were wolf, sage and tobacco. My friend's family identifies with the wolf clan, we and the lodge were smudged with sage for purification at the start of the blessing, and we passed aroud the ceremonial tobacco pipe to at the end of the blessing. The deck had laid out the ceremony that was already planned.All in all, taking the deck at face value, I find it a useful and inspiring addition to my other tarot and oracle decks. My only slight disatisfaction is that I can't find out anything about the author and her background for producing this deck. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Warm and Affirming *by L***. on Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2009* I haven't finishing studying these, or used them in a professional capacity yet, to be honest. However, they just FEEL RIGHT. WARM, even. I've read the reviews that point out hard cold facts about them and their relationship (or lack thereof) to actual Indian Shamans. Personally, I think that different things work for each person, and that different things can 'speak' differently to different people. Also, you get what you're looking for by perusing various materials and going with your gut instinct of what feels right FOR YOU and accurate FOR YOU. I already love these and am so glad to have them. The quality is great. My only complaint is how TINY the instruction booklet (and its print!) are because that makes it harder to read. I loved the 'tag' of "Oracle Cards" that was one of those recommended by Amazon. These are not really tarot cards, but are affirmation and wisdom cards. They're written a bit differently and that takes a minute to adapt to, but then it feels good. A card will say, "I am..." unlike tarot decks. This deck feels friendly, also, which is more than I feel from most traditional tarot decks. The cards are “inspired by,” as is clearly stated.I love them from the look to the descriptions and meanings of each card. There is real perspective to be gained from every one of them.
