Or do they extend beyond the 22" allowed on many airlines?** A: The bag I received measured 21 x 14 x 9 (unpacked, wheels to handles). Packed it would be slightly deeper than 9" (perhaps 10" up to 13", if extended ). Delta Airlines allows carry-on size of "approximately 22 x 14 x 9." Approximately means approximately. An inch probably won't make a lot of difference. Other airlines vary in carry-on requirements. Southwest, for example, allows 24 x 16 x 10. All aircraft overheads are not created equal, however.
