It cuts rope flush and clean and stays sharp for a long time. When it needs to be sharpened the straight blade is easy to sharpen. The marlin spike is very useful for splicing rope and loosening knots. It came in a very nice case that I have no use for as the sheath is also nice. The knife and spike stay in place in the sheath without fear of falling out.
