Does it need to be purchased separately?** A: Just asked my boys. And they both said yes! I bought 2 of them and both came with the Edcomm cord. (they also said that the cord is stored in the battery storage)I hope this help. :)LM **Q: What is it's power source? Battery? Size? rechargeable?** A: The Edisons use 4 AAA alkaline batteries. If using rechargeable batteries, make sure that you use the 1.5 Volt type, not the more typical 1.2 volt type. The 0.3 volt difference in (each) battery voltage results the total voltage being 1.2 volts lower than that of the 1.5 volt type and will not power the Edison correctly. 4x(1.5volts)= 6 volts 4x(1.2volts)= 4.8 volts. I liked this robot over others because it is Lego compatible, and we LOVE Legos. As a plus, we can also program the robot when my children are ready for this. So far, my kids have been playing with it. We have used the bouncing off function, the flashlight function, and the follow the line function. We drew a road/path on our table for Edison and watched it go around and around the table.
