I drilled a hole through to the other side in order to put a nut, bolt, and washer to hold that pole securely since it doesn’t snap together like the other two poles do. I removed that pole before setting the stake into my the ground.Next step was to dig a hole 18 inches deep and probably about 8 inches or so all around. I drove the ground spike into the center of the hole 2-3 inches deep using a rubber mallet (ground was soft because it’s rained a lot). I used a small level to make sure it was straight then finished driving the stake all the way into the ground 13 inches deep, checking again to make sure it was straight.I had bought a 50 lb bag of Sacrete Quick Cement to finish the job. I used garden hose to fill the hole about 1/3 of the way with water then I worked the bag of cement around the pole, filling the hole evenly all the way around, then smoothed it out with a garden trowel (a small piece of scrap wood will do) with a slight slope away from the pole. I then put the hose nozzle on “spray” (gentle for watering flowers) to wet the dry cement. I just sort of watched it harden, which was pretty quick. I just added a little more water until it pooled on top. The anchor was steady as a rock by then.Note: if you do it like this, the concrete will surround the ground stake and go up another 5 inches. It is very secure but you don’t have to go that far.Finishing off is to slide the bottom pole into the holder on the ground stake. Be sure you don’t bury or cement the ground stake so high that you can’t insert the pole. This is where I pre-drilled the holes to insert the nut and bolt to hold it securely to the ground stake. Also note that the bottom pole won’t accommodate a wooden dowel because two fasteners at either end block insertion of a dowel.Snap the second pole into place. Remove the screw from the top of the flag mast and attached the eagle finial by screwing it into place. The eagle wings snap into place so you need to do that first.I used a step ladder to snap the top section into place. Done!I was careful not to let the flag touch the ground at any time, and I also used the dirt from the hole to cover the concrete. Grass will eventually find its way there or rocks, flowers, or some other decorative feature would be nice.Proper flag etiquette is to light it at night if it remains up all the time. I have a solar spotlight to use on mine. You can also buy lengths of black bands to attach to the flag specifically to signify half-mast.I’m very handy so this was quite an easy project for me. If you want to forego the extra work I did, you can have it anchored in the ground and flag waving in five minutes. It’s very simple. It’s sturdy and looks great, and I love that the flag spins with the wind rather than getting all tangled around the flag pole.I love it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This flag does the job *by J***1 on Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2015* This flag allows us to proudly display our American pride with little to no installation time. It took about 15 minutes to do because my husband hammered the stake as far into the ground as possible. The hardest part about it was making sure the stake was aligned so the flagpole isn't crooked. That part took us a couple tries to get right.Unfortunately mine didn't come with the Eagle topper but that wasn't enough for us to return it. Instead the pole is topped with a black cap. I read some reviews about aluminum poles snapping, but because this design had a swiveling flag and easy installation, we decided to chance it. It's been flying for a couple weeks and in various weather conditions (rainy and windy) and although the pole does sway in the wind, it seems sturdy enough not to break (hopefully).
