Very durable. *by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2018* Backed up over it with a forklift.It still holds water without leaking. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ so I expected the worst: maybe rupturing from the force *by D***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2018* I purchased two of these canteens back in 2016, and they have seen use everywhere from hiking on trails in the States to a deployment overseas where they have seen daily use. I have no complaints thus far after about 2 years of use.They have seen use in the field during the hot summers at Fort Hood. A common complaint of the GI canteens is they bleed nasty tasting chemicals when they warm up, or sit for too long. These canteens as advertised, do not have this unpleasant issue.I have taken both of my canteens hiking with me, where one has been accidentally dropped down a cliff face, where after tumbling for about 10 yards it was met with a sheer drop off of about 20 feet coming abruptly to a stop on a boulder face. It was full when it got away from me, so I expected the worst: maybe rupturing from the force. To my surprise, it was perfectly fine, significantly scratched, but completely sound otherwise.The plastic strap that holds the cap captive to the canteen body is made of a softer plastic. It will serve its purpose just fine, but I would refrain from carrying it by the strap; I had to break myself of this habit when I noticed it had formed a stress crease, and would break from repeated folding if I continued. Other than that, it’s well made and can easily replace a GI canteen in its full capacity.Recently on a second deployment, due to my own neglect one of my Oasis canteens became unserviceable. I promptly ordered a new one and it arrived today. My two previous canteens were manufactured in 2016, the new one that arrived today was made in 2018. I immediately noticed that Nalgene has reduced the amount of material that they use in the walls of the new canteens, and that the walls are noticeably thinner than the old ones. I don’t believe the new series would survive the fall that the previous one had during my hike. The quality of construction as well as the dimensions remain the same otherwise. I noticed as well is the new series are less opaque than the older ones, just a cosmetic difference I noticed.All said and done I would recommend this product for use as a part of a hiking setup, or if you are in the Armed Forces: a good replacement to the nasty GI canteens. The newer series does have less material than the old ones, but all in all it still seems to be of very resilient construction and should not let you down under normal circumstances. I am rating at 4 stars due to the thinner walls on the newer series, but this is still a quality product made in the USA! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 109-year-old design, still better than the rest *by Z***H on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2019* A water bottle with an ergonomic design that dates back to 1910.1910!It's beyond me as to why this is not more popular than the jumbo cylindrical water bottles, like the original Nalgene bottle. I'm grateful that Nalgene has created their own version of it.So compared to the jumbo cylindrical bottles, I like this canteen for two reasons: (1) because of its flattened design, it is easier and more comfortable to hold, and (2) because of its flattened design, it packs easily into my hiking backpack. The circle may be nature's most efficient shape, but the cylinder bottle is terrible for packing into a side compartment, as it leaves unnecessary gaps and juts outward to the point of straining the compartment mesh. Unlike the cylinder bottle, I can easily put this into a side compartment and it will fit the contour of the bag and create a slimmer profile.And compared to the standard green plastic canteen, this canteen is easier to hold because the plastic has a kind of coarse-grain bumpy texture. The cap comes off more easily, and because the cap lanyard is longer and less stiff, the cap isn't scratching my face when I try to drink.
