The old one pops off and the new one slides right on. Unfortunately, the float that came with the vacuum started taking on water within the first 6 months. I replaced it and 3 months later the new one started taking on water. This is my third in less than a year. Hopefully this one will last. It started to roll onto it's side a lot, which was very odd. The youtube videos I saw said to replace the float head when it does that, which was hard to believe. Believe it! I didn't notice anything wrong with the one I had, but when I replaced it, it went back upright and works great again.
