I will be growing mostly lettuces and basil. I would think that 36 would be best.** A: 36 is too dense for butterhead lettuce to mature. This density is used by people who want lots of different color and flavor in salad and are willing to pay. Even 28 per raft is too dense for butterhead to fully mature but OK for other lettuce. When plants are at high density, monitoring for pests is difficult, and the environment for pests is better. **Q: I bought the 28-12 but I got an email this morning that the order was cancelled and it no longer appears in the store. When will you have more?** A: Hello Sorry on not having the Lettuce Raft 28 available. We have been selling more than anticipated. We do have Lettuce Raft 36 in stock. A few more 8 plants per raft. Plan is to restock Amazon in the future. 6 to 8 weeks. **Q: How far from center of one hole to center of next hole is in inches?** A: 8 inch centers. **Q: Are the 18 hole boards strong enough to handle ebb/flow (flood/drain), help up on each side. Will they bend in the middle with full lettuce heads?** A: I’ve been using these boards in my aquaponic system for the past year. They are very durable. I grew lettuce in dirt first but they are easy to separate and wrap snuggly in the rock wool. Don’t waste your money on Smart Plugs. They weren’t a good medium for germination. I bought 3 rafts and planted lettuce , spinach, and onions. All plants seem happy and zero transplant shock. I am floating these on my natural pond.
