Just put a large spoonful into a 1 litre container full of water and allowed them to infuse. I then poured the mixture into a spray bottle (but so you don't clog up the nozzle, I suggest straining the liquid through a very fine mesh). It pongs a bit, but I added a few drops of peppermint oil and that took the edge off. I then sprayed the soil of my houseplants, and in the self-watering pots, I would also spray the bottom reservoir as well. Took over a month, but eventually the fungus gnats went. I've been gnat-free for 7 months now. Seems like the bits would clog up the pump. I use the bits in my potted plants indoors to alleviate gnats etc **Q: Can these be dissolved in straight from the tap water, or might the chlorine kill the live bacteria?** A: You're supposed to sprinkle them on the soil, then when you order your plans they activate If you have chlorine in your water you shouldn't water your plants with it **Q: How much do you have to use? I feel like i only need a tiny saltshakers worth not a whole bag?** A: I put some on the surface of my outdoor worm bin and the mosquitos left. I used a generous sprinkling, but not the whole bag. The bin had an area of 1.5 x 2 feet. Your area may be bigger. Use your judgement, you can always add more if needed. It helps break down the Mosquito BITS better and quicker. Although the mixture smells like genie pig food pellets, once you pour the mixture into the soil the smell lessen greatly. My friend and I had a fungus gnat infestation on our indoor plants due to some bad Miracle Grow soil {Miracle Grow is cheap for a reason >:( } She used Mosquito Bits for her plants for a few days and she hasn't had anymore gnats living in her plants.
