Oxygene was a seminal album of synthesized music in it's day and is as relevant now as it was then. The difference being that the quality of the sound, in my opinion, is significantly better on this remastered CD. If you enjoy synthesized music from this artist and others, such as Larry Fast and Patrick Moraz, then this will truly be an aural inspiration for you. I love listening to this music when I want to relax on the couch, close my eyes, and enter "the zone", meaning to meditate, and just let the mind wander, smoke-free for me, of course, but use it in your own way and to your advantage. The main thing is that you hear and enjoy this masterpiece of electronic music that, while released in 1976, still sounds incredible and timeless. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I'm amazed that many people who enjoy his other work have ... *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2014* Jean Michel Jarre has been around for a while, and I'm amazed that many people who enjoy his other work have never listened to Oxygene. This remastered version is 'back and better than ever' unless possibly you're a vinyl-o-phile (which I am not). I've seen reviews who dismiss this work in various vapid ways, don't listen to them -- they're going by their uninformed opinion and not being objective. Oxygene, at the time of release, was an incredible achievement and electronic tour de force.That said, it's ok to dislike electronic music, or only like specific parts of electronic music, but this album is in the DNA of EDM just as John Cage, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream all contributed (just to name a few) to what we have today.As for my personal opinion, I give the album five stars in terms of my personal enjoyment, and four for historical importance in electronica. I'd rate it 4.5 stars from 5 if I could, but I'll give the benefit of rounding. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A variety of sounds that keep you thinking. *by T***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2013* This was a fun one to listen to. Anything like this is always grouped in with Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, whose music I'm a lot more familiar with, but this album doesn't really show the discipline of those artists. On the other hand, some of the kooky changes and beats really made me smile, which is something TD and Vangelis rarely do. There are a lot of really cool rhythms and things going on, but it seems like he's doing too much stuff at once and they all kind of step on each other in parts, like you're listening to 2 or 3 electronic albums at once. These things all add up to create a great sense of tension & release throughout the course of the whole album though, so there are a lot of double edged aspects of this album. Overall it's thought provoking and challenging, while being fun and loose, which is pretty hard to do!
