I never could get the Timberland boot to fit well . . not the boot's fault . . I'm hard to fit. I ended up sending them back and getting the Caterpillar "Walking Machines" Stock number P72365. I just measured and the sole is 3/4". The heel is just over 1 inch (over by 1/8 of an inch). Sorry I couldn't offer more help on the Timberland PRO . . it's an extremely well made work boot. Also, 1 inch (as reported by another customer) seems to be a little bit of a "stretch" to me on the sole. 3/4" seems to be the average . . I just checked another boot I have, a Wolverine "Multishox". It's sole is just under 1/2" and the heel is just over an inch (by an 1/8th of an inch). I remember my Timberland PROS, and the thickness of the sole was more like 3/4 of an inch. Incidently, these souls have not been worn down, and the numbers I have provided are for "like new" soles. I hope I have been of some help. If in doubt, go for it! Amazon is GREAT with returns.
