I thought we were going to have to get a new one since this one is old already (had it about 8+ years). I researched parts and saw that the one on Whirlpool's site was $180 so again I thought a new one would be a better option. I wasn't 100% sure that's what I needed and wasn't confident in my abilities to replace it enough to make that purchase. Then I saw this one on Amazon and after reading the mostly positive reviews I decided to give it a shot. Worst case I would just be out the $24 and have to get a new washer but best case it could be fixed and save us lots of money! When I got it I drained most of the water by flexing the hose around until it drained in the bucket. Then I leaned it up against the dryer to look underneath. I was lucky because the pump was super easy to access. I took a picture then used a ratchet to remove the screws holding it and a channel lock to remove the hose. Have a towel under it when removing the hose because water will most likely come out. When inspecting the old water pump I noticed there was a loose part when shaking it and that's when I knew I was onto something. I previously watched a guy on YouTube replace it on a similar model and his old pump did the same thing, which he said it shouldn't do. I installed the new pump, connected the wires back, and put some water in it to test the draining. PRESTO, IT WORKED! I then put a load through it and it worked fine with no issues. Super happy that I could repair the washer at such a cheap price! I can't comment on how long it lasts because it's only been installed for a couple weeks. Hopefully it lasts at least a year.
