Anyone who does electrical work probably also has guessed wrong about the wiring or circuitry at least once. I was on the fence about needing this tool, since I have a multimeter and routinely use it to check things before and during my work. But recently I was using this NCVT, and realized sometimes I'm wrong about which wire is live on a light switch, and a multimeter isn't as effective at telling you that. It's easy to identify live wires and cables, to tell if multiple circuits are involved in a junction box (maybe you didn't turn off the right breaker yet!) and it works for low voltage too, which is where I spend a lot of time, just adjust for low sensitivity or high sensitivity as needed.
