Review: Really nice! holds details relaly well, just love it! - love this clay/wax! its more like a combo between a aculpting wax and a firm clay. It holds details really nice and I really love how firm is is and how its nice and hard until you work some in your hands. A fellow sculptor had bought some and sent me a small peice to see if I liked it as I can't afford to be buying clays I can't use and I just wasn't sure I'd like this. So she sent the little sample and I just fell in love with how it works in your hands and I ordered this right away! I also found the price here to be the lowest I could find online and I did search for the lowest price. I had thought that like other types of cly or wax clay which is what this feels like I'd need to heat my tools to sculpt the fine details but you don't need to! I do use a solvent though ( goo gone) as a smoothing agent after I have smoothed with my fingers whch only takes a very light touch.. its not quite like a clay like plastalina at all so if thats what your looking for this is a lot different. And I also use the agent to dip the tip of my tool into to make it glide across the clay better to make sculpting hair or making a smoother area eaiser to sculpt. I also like how you can just melt it down over and over again or heat it up to get it really loose and soft. You can also microwave it ( follow directions if you do!) or put it under a heat lamp which is what I do. I have a small halogen bendy arm desk lamp I use just for heating sculpting waxes and I used it for this too. If I put it really close for very long it will melt it to a liquid which you don't want or hold it a bit farther away it keeps it perfect! Just warm and easy to pull off a small clump to sculpt with and stays nice and malleable and warm. If you do small work you will love this suff because it holds tiny detail and you don't necessarily need an armature. If its really thin like legs you can put it in the feezer to firm it up so it holds its weight. As long as the (legs) don't get too warm again they will hold up the weight of the sculpt if its not too large ( lets say a dog or horse) perfect for micro sized sculpts too!
Review: Best product ever! - I am thoroughly impressed with the performance of Monster Clay. Its non-stick properties and exceptional malleability are unparalleled in the market. This is truly a fantastic product, and I anticipate placing significant future orders. The primary challenge encountered is the necessity for continuous reheating or the acquisition of a slow cooker, typically ranging from $40 to $80, to maintain an optimal working temperature. While microwave heating is efficient, typically requiring approximately one minute, I have observed that the material cools more rapidly than it heats when utilizing this method.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone have experience with the Prima Plastilina clay? Wondering how the two compare in working/holding details for casting? Thanks!!**
A: A.T.Lee, hi. The "Monster Clay" is what I have sworn by for over 10yrs. yes, the composition is the sister chemical to Plasticine, or commonly called C-4. (without the explosive dust). as well, it has been formulated with additives for molding, casting needs. having a low melt point, it can be brushed, or spread as a liquid, or spatula'd as a solid clay when cooled. very workable when warm. when I finish my sculpts, "to retain detail", I will actually Chill my work (The Monster Clay) in the fridge overnight, or soak in very cold water. this will turn it into a Plastic, hard, Moldable piece. some molding materials have a degree of heat they produce when curing. in most, if not all applications, there is no need for a release agent, although I prefer to use a very light dusting of cooking spray to save the sculpt from de-molding damage. as well, this stuff can be used ..Indefinently !!! I am the proud owner of over 100lbs. of this stuff, & will not use anything else. one last thing, I also use this as my Mold-Wall dividing clay. having the chilled sculpt piece, building the mold wall with M.C., (at room temp, pliable, warm ), it will literally leave hardly no seam line at all on the sculpt. Hope this Helps in your search, & good luck in your projects.Sincerely, TM. Walters / EPS.

**Q: its pretty big then?can you sculpt a head free hand with this?will it harden if left out or will it stay soft?is it the brown shade**
A: Its not HUGE but its around medium size tub. you can scult a head hands free, but you have to heat it up. it comes in a tub and right out of the box it is hard but not dried out hard, just hard. microwave for 20 seconds and it will be moldable like air dry clay. leaving it out will just get hard like before, a little heat will soften it up again. yes it is brown.

**Q: can you use this right out of the package?can you start sculpting right when you take this out of the tub?**
A: You can absolutely work with it right out of the package. It does NOT have to be warmed up or heated. The heat from your hands will soften it considerably after just a few minuted of use. I use canned air to freeze it when it gets too warm (soft) It comes in a large block and is easier to work with if you cut it up and keep it in .50" sheets or bars.

**Q: Hi! Can or has this be used successfully as an alternative to wax when making a lost-wax casting mold for jewelry pieces?**
A: If you mean molding it to jewelry to make broken pieces I don't see why not. It is very stiff and waxy when it isn't heated, and I believe it has wax in it. I am clearly not sure as I have never tried to use it for this exact purpose, but I can't see why it wouldn't work as long as you don't have to heat i on the process, as it would melt. Hope that's helpful!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Artists who want to sculp for Reference Material...
*by E***O on November 4, 2025*

This clay is Awesome!!! Aside from 1 sculpting class I took many years ago when I was in junior high, I am a complete newbie. But with nearly no experience, I am able to sculpture any pose I want! This really helps for an artist who needs poses that Manikins simply aren't capable of doing due to certain joints not being able to completely fold. I was uncertain about what softness to get, but I definitely recommend the Medium one if you're new to Monster Clay like me. It might feel a bit hard when trying to get the clay out from the container, but when you do get it out and start shaping it with your hands, the clay softens up immediately. No need for a microwave in my opinion. I was using a small coffee spoon to scoop it out and with my hands and tweezers, I was addicted! If the clay was any softer, I feel like the sculpture wouldn't hold so I am very pleased with the Medium Softness one that I got.
