I don't recall getting any software with the unit (a disk perhaps?). In any case, what is needed is a simple on-off button. **Q: I want to use this as a backup to my Fios ONT. Would this device dive me 24 hours? The exist battery is 12V 8Ah.** A: The FIOS unit seems to require 12V 2.5A power. That means you'll need to deliver 2.5A every hour (not in reality) to the device. If you want to keep it active for 24 hours, you'll need at least 24x2.5, or 60AH worth of battery storage. With that said, it's doubtful it pulls that much power continuously. However you're also going to have losses from the conversion of 12V DC to 120VAC to 12V DC. If you need (or anyone else does) to solve this, you'll need to look at DC-DC buck/boost converters and plan a different topology for power. **Q: Does the unit protect against a low voltage situation?** A: Using the above answer from Dennis as measurement, I agree, but there is NO mention in any of the documentation SPECIFICALLY about a "low-voltage situation" and, that I know of, I have only had a single sorta flickr incident which was handled w/o ANY interruption. I protect a cable TV/DVR, digital signal interpreter, DVD and VCR player and HD TV.
