## Description

BUNN Coffee Maker

Review: Well designed, thoughtful features, delicious coffee much better than older style autodrip makers - There's a lot I like about this coffee maker. In short, it is EASY to use, brews DELICIOUS coffee and is actually pretty FAST considering how it works. This is a relatively unique coffee maker given all the options out there. It's a great design conceptually and practically. I feel it brews more similar to a manual style pour over than how most basic coffee makers work. So far, I have been using basic bottled drinking water from the gallon jugs from the grocery store (as opposed to tap, even filtered tap, because we have pretty hard water) and it works very well with the the drinking water. I'm using the stack of supplied Bunn filters that came with the coffee maker and ordered more Bunn filters for when those run out. I grind my coffee using a Flair Royal manual grinder on a "medium" setting (typically around a "7" within the second rotation from the zero point, for those familiar with how that manual grinder works) and the coffee is very balanced with great flavors and easy to drink, even black. It's not bitter at all. The controls are very easy. Once you have water poured and a filter with grounds in place, you just hit the brew button and wait about 10 minutes. After it heats the water at the top, you hear a single dull pop sound when the water valve opens, the brewing starts and within seconds you start to see hot coffee dripping into the carafe. The actual dripping down of the water through the grounds only takes a couple minutes. If you only brew to "4" cup line on the carafe (about 2 average sized mugs worth) it's usually done dripping in about 8 minutes total but the machine will continue to say "brewing" for a few minutes afterwards. Some things to be aware of: 1. There's no auto-pause, so if you pull the carafe out while the coffee is dripping down then it will just keep dripping and go everywhere. So it's important to leave the carafe in place until the dripping has completed. Again, once it starts dripping you only need to wait a few minutes. 2. The lid is designed to come off very easily when it is in the VERTICAL position. Many reviews seem to complain that the lid "comes off too easily", but I'm guessing what is happening is they're raising the lid by blindly pushing it down with their thumb unaware that the little nubs holding the lid on have flats on them for this exact purpose - to allow it to come off easy when veritical. When the lid is down, and even partially raised, it is effectively "locked" into the handle, or at least prevented from poping out. You can of course raise the lid all the way without it coming off, but if you push up or pull up on it in that position it WILL come out easily. 3. Grind size matters. To get the best tasting cup of coffee, grind your coffee fresh to the correct size using a high quality grinder. If it's coming out bitter, it's likely that your grind is too fine. 4. At the beginning, you need to pay attention when you're lining up the basket and sliding it in. If you don't catch the lip of the basket on the sides then you could potentially not realize it and drop it. But, once you get used to sliding the basket in it's not hard to do. There's no tactile indication that it's in place other than you just can't push it any further. But, if you slide it back 3/4" it could fall out. So just be careful that it's seated fully before you let go! Specific things I really like about it: 1. The coffee tastes really great! 2. The filter basket is easy to clean. There aren't super deep ridges in it like most auto drip makers have. 3. Brew time is relatively quick. I think under 10 minutes for a couple mugs is great. 4. The carafe pours flawlessly without dripping thanks to the unique lid design! The lid does look a bit odd at first but it really works amazingly well at preventing the drips. 5. It's pretty quiet while brewing even when heating the water. Not a major thing but I still appreciate it. 6. For the money I haven't seen anything that brews coffee this way and I think it's a winning design concept. I recommend buying this machine.
Review: Great BUNN performance with a timer - We've had BUNN products for years, and love the brewing speed and the taste of the coffee. Our others have been the traditional type that store a pot of hot water then release it quickly when a pot of cold water is poured in the top. This means you have a 12oz pot of coffee, less the grounds absorption, in about 4 minutes. Pouring it in is not a big deal to me at all, but, I always have wondered about power consumption and product longevity when the unit is constantly keeping 12oz of water hot. Our last unit starting leaking and I found this new version. It IS slower than the standard units as the water is heated when it starts, no hot water is stored. So if you want that 4 minute (after filling) pot of coffee, this is not for you. But with this model you can set a timer. To me it's the best of both choices as we almost always can schedule it to start and have coffee ready when leaving, with no effort in the morning. The coffee is still speed brewed in about 4 minutes but only after first heating the water up, which adds another 4 minutes or so. Set the timer to allow about 8-10 minutes of time before you expect to pour it and you're golden. The water stays in the top of the unit and sits until it's completely heated. You'll hear a small "thump" as a temperature release valve opens and pours the water into the filter holder quickly, just like the original models do. Even if using it manually, the 8-10 minutes is faster than anything else I've had, and you still get that quality brew speed and flavor that BUNN is known for. The carafe heater turns off after 2 hours which to me is also a plus if you forget to turn it off. Pressing and holding the brew button for a few seconds will turn it back on for 2 more hours.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it made in the US or in China?**
A: As I understand it there are no drip coffee makers that are able to be called "made in USA." Bunn has some that are "manufactured or assembled in USA" which is a lesser standard. They are the Speed Brew (Classic), BT, GR, and BX models. All of these are assembled in Creston, Iowa. I think this one is made in the oppressive communist nation of China that enslaves its citizens that don't toe the line. These slaves are forced to build many of these products we enjoy everyday. I guess the pain of some political and religious dissidents is worth it for a fine cup of joe. When possible we need to buy from free nations.

**Q: Is this coffee maker made in the usa? and is it bpa free**
A: I don't think this model is made in USA, Bunn does make coffee makers in US but I think this one is imported. There is plastic which I am sure meets the BPA requirements but this unit is not plastic free. The chamber the water is heated in is plastic with a metal heating element on the bottom that brings water to 200 degrees and the coffee holder is also plastic.
We really enjoy our Heat N Brew, makes a very good pot of coffee every morning we have owned it.

**Q: So if "heat and brew" does not have the hot water reservoir, how am i to determine which ones do? cuz that name sure sounds like it does. the codes?**
A: Most people when they think of Bunn they think of the commercial coffee makers. They have a hot water reservoir and when you hit the start button it’s instantly hot. To me this coffee maker is more for the coffee connoisseur. The secret with this coffee maker is that the water temperature is perfect, and how the water sprays down onto the grounds. You have to wait for the whole pot to brew before you can get your coffee.

**Q: Does anyone know if the basket from the bunn hg phase brew would fit into this? it is a metal basket and i prefer that to a plastic one. thank you!**
A: This is a bit more conical in shape. Deeper more narrow. I use the unbleached filters.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ USA made. So it's very durable. Sexy design look
*by S***E on April 28, 2025*

Wished it didn't drip so much when pulling out coffee pot. You have to wait a few minutes longer for it to brew as it is, but then have to wait for it to settle enough not to run/ drip all on the burner. This makes a mess on burner, counter, and glass pot. But, it is designed to last, very nice to open up flap to pour in water, instead of swivel arm technology that breaks often. Heats up nicely if remained plugged in, does turn off in 2 hours, however all home coffee pots should turn off in 1 hour for fire safety, but the ones that do shut off all stick with same 2 hour. A lot of damage can be done in 2 hours with a coffee pot that is left on, especially the Bunn, that has a better heating plate. The program features is nice, perhaps it could be programmed to shut off too? Easy to clean, very durable, easy to clean, but always use very clean vessel to pour in water. Coffee quality is good, Bunn doesn't need so much space between pot and maker for coffee to come out as that does have a slight cooling affect as it moves through air to pot, but you can easily see when it's done, and you're able to pull out pot. It looks super slick; many people comment on it as soon as they walk in kitchen!
