If you WERE to use AAA's, then RECHARGEABLE AAA's (known as NiMH) at 1.2 volts each, would be recommended. When buying 18650's, they need to be high quality, or you're going to get ripped off. Cheap 18650's have low capacity, and no protection circuit. A good indicator of quality is usually when you can get 2 for $25. They are small and compact but very bright. Great for travel or home. I purchased these several times for myself and family members.
