Preamps, as the name implies, come before the amplifier but after the cartridge. **Q: Can i use this instead of my turntable preamp** A: if you have a turntable with a preamp on the circuit board you can bypass it, but it will still be sending the audio through the circuit so yes, but in order to truly bypass your internal preamp you need to disconnect it from the board and resolder the wires back. That is what i did with my AP LP 120 it was kind of a pain but if you know how to solder can be done relatively quickly, not sure it was worth the risk tbh. **Q: Will this ever be back in stock? The unit is an all alminium case with sides, top and bottom finished in wood. Thus ensuring protection against unwanted interference. There is no adjustable gain or any ability to tweak the different frequencies that you would get on more expensive pre-amps, but I found the built in 38 dB gain to be more than enough. I am using it with my Audio Technica 120X-USb turntable and the separation is more pronounced than when using the turntables built in pre-amp. Also the top, middle and lower end is amazing. Only thing it lacks is a power button so if you wish to switch off you have to nplug it. There is absolutely no background hum, even at higher volumes. An Amazon Warehouse item listed as "Used, like new." It was obvious it had been out of the box but it is in pristine condition. There's a manual and 24v power supply included. I don't know why some reviewers complain about the lack of cables. I don't know of any phono amplifier where they are supplied.I do have a phono amp which cost 8x this and comparing them both there's not much in it re sound and build quality. The PA10 sticks faithfully to RIAA equalisation which is good. I don't see the point of the 20Hz filter, I don't use it.The "keep it simple" principle applies here. It's just a small black ash finish box and a tiny unobtrusive l.e.d. on the front to indicate power on. Concentrate on the sound and not any fancy gimmicks. There's barely visible Fluance branding on the plain front.Easy set up. No on/off switch/button which, in my opinion isn't necessary. Electronics should ideally be left powered on.
