Review: Buy this now. - For the price, anyone who functions as the IT person for their friends and family should have one of these. Many usable but older Dell workstations for example are small and generally only have a VGA port and if you have an old VGA style monitor you will need to convert the VGA to HDMI and this does that while piping in the audio out from the computer into the HDMI line. It works flawlessly and doesn't require thinking at all to use, basically like having a chunky wire that connects two different shaped ports and powers directly off the computers USB. But one now even if you don't need one if you are reading this and keep it with the ungodly collection of cables I would guess you have already.

**Q: I have a 2 monitor setup with hdmi ports but a pc with only 1 hdmi port & 1 vga. can i use this to run an hdmi cord from my monitor to my vga port pc?**
A: Yes, this is the adapter you need. Plug this into your pc (output) then plug the hdmi cable from the monitor (input) to the adapter. Remember these are usually unidirectional, in other words this won’t work if your output source is hdmi and you’re sending the signal to a vga input. That’s a different adapter.

**Q: The audio output port on my laptop is on the opposite side from the vga port. will the audio cable included in this package reach?**
A: The product description says the audio cable is 50 cm, or about 20 in, but mine is 37 in (about 94 cm).  Either should be enough to reach around a laptop.

**Q: Can I plug the vga into my computer and the hdmi into my monitor?? Will this work??**
A: That's the ONLY real intended way to use this product.

A source (typically, an older computer's VGA output, but it could be anything else that outputs with a VGA connector), plus (optionally) an audio input (via 3.5mm "headphone jack sized" coaxial plug) comes into this device.  The device is powered by the USB cable (which ONLY provides power, and doesn't do anything else).   The device converts the video and audio (if provided) into an HDMI signal containing both.

The output signal should be exactly what is provided by the computer... not altered in any way other than in "signal format."   That is, the resolution, color depth, "refresh rate," etc, output by this ought to be just as is being output by your computer.  (Note...  if you set some unusual resolution or refresh rate not within the standard specs this device supports,  you may have difficulties, though, so read the spec.)

**Q: Do i have to plug the audio cable from this device to the tv to get sound on the tv?**
A: No the adapter comes with an audio cable that you plug into the computers audio out. this supplies audio to the HDMI Input for your TV.

### ⭐ Bad design: no access to the screws.

So, many cables and adaptors have plastic screws, that if you aren't careful, can easily be damaged. This one has metal screws, a good touch. But I would like to know who designed this thing and made it IMPOSSIBLE to access the screws with a screw driver. SO I put it on, and managed to tighten one of the screws using my fingers, but not the other. Then the thing wouldn't work. I tried and tried, decided to remove it.. Couldn't, couldn't get the screw I'd managed to tighten out. Then I read here that it has to be connected to USB. The directions that didn't come with it didn't say so, nad I thought the USB was just to hook up audio to a monitor, and mine doesn' have any speaekers. SO now, I'll try and maybe it will work, but I don't want a device I can't remove, and I've found some others that look like a better design. How do I undo the tightened screw ?Why would you put in screw heads that can't be reached with a screw driver. I am scratching my head: I want to be rid of this thing and I can't even remove it from my computer. Plus: no that I look at, the tight space probably won't allow for that USB cable to be connected anyway (old Mac G4)
