For three years I paid an exterminator to get my moles that were coming onto my property because my neighbors on both side of me had them. It cost me over $2000. So I would say the price of the traps are well worth it. The problem with an exterminator was it usually took them two to three days to get out to set the traps. My exterminator used this brand of trap, so I went to amazon purchased the exact brand and model. Best purchase ever. We are now able to set the traps earlier, thus eliminating the destruction the moles make. I bought three sets of two traps, to have plenty on hand when the moles get active and spread out to make their nests., Place the traps on the most recent track. You can tell the most recent track by the fact that the dirt line with be raised and freshly crumbled looking and you will see little air holes along the dirt line. The fresher the track the faster you can catch the mole. We usually keep the trap in the ground after it has sprung for at least 12-24 hours and then pull it to dispose of the dead mole; use gloves because you do not want human scent on it. Also do not wash the trap. Simply clean the spikes by pushing it in and out of the dirt. Once you have had moles, it is important to survey your property on a regular basis, so you can get them before they make a lot to dirt tracks. The more dirt tracks there are the harder to catch the mole. If you set a trap in a fresh track you are likely to trap the mole in less than 24 hours. The shortest time it took us to catch a mole was 15 minutes and on average 6 to 12 hours. **Q: Will it work on shallow tunnels** A: It was designed specifically for shallow or surface tunnels. I have over 50 of these traps as I catch the as a side gig and 98% effective. Occasionally my placement may be in too deep of a tunnel and that is me taking a shot if no better placement is found. My rule of thumb is if I can stick my finger in the tunnel and fell the open tunnel, my trap will work. If all I feel is dirt or barely reaching the open-air part of the tunnel, it won't work as a mole will travel below it and never trigger it. **Q: How much weight is needed to set this trap? I have tried repeated and cannot get enough pressure down on it. I weigh about 120 lbs.** A: At 120 your problem is technique. Stand facing the high point of the lever and step straight down. Note picture orientation and stand to the right side. This is the best trap around. I’ve caught 127 Moles on my acre lot in 10 years. **Q: What pictures is the item i receive? The bait did not seem to work well, and the hoop style of traps were difficult to use/set. These traps worked great. I have a large yard and had several moles, the first day of use I was able to get rid of two moles, and the next day two more. Extremely easy to use. I want to highlight that I have an irrigation system and have been keeping my yard green, which means that the soil is soft. I do not know how well these will work in extremely dry soil, but if you make sure to rock the trap after installing it, it should be find. When they smell/feel outside air coming into their little tunnel complex they will almost immediately go in search of where that air is coming from and fix the problem. Again - they are really good at fixing their tunnels - use this info to your advantage!2. NEVER touch this trap with your bare hands! Remember how moles can smell really good? Well if they smell you (or any other weird smell) on this trap they will simply tunnel around it - which will infuriate you. What works for me is I leave the trap outside and only handle it with gloves on. Also - keep a large screwdriver or some other implement to dig with handy that is free of human scent.3. Check the nuts on the side of the trap to make sure they are not too tight. Mine were way too tight and it took entirely too much force to spring the trap closed. Don't bother messing around with the tunnels that are going in all different directions or in circles- they may never return to these tunnels - again - only look for nice straight runs to set your trap.When you find a good place to set the trap do this exactly: 1. Firmly step on about a foot long section of the tunnel and smash it down flat 2. Push the trap into the ground on the spot you just smashed down. 3. Step on the trap to open the jaws apart. 4. While your foot is still on the trap - "rock" it back and forth real good to open up the earth so the jaws don't get bound up - you want the jaws to snap shut really fast. Also put your full weight on the trap to really push it down tight to the ground - you want the trigger pad firmly on top of the ground. 5. About a foot on both sides of the trap on a part of the tunnel that you have NOT smashed down - use the screwdriver to open up a good sized hole...big enough to stick a golf ball in - you want PLENTY of outside air to get into the tunnel! 6. Go get a beer and wait - sometimes within 30 mins you will see the trap spring. Then simply go look at the holes you made - one of them will be fixed - the other will not be. He's dead inside the trap on the side where it got fixed - and that's the last thing he ever did. Go throw him out and re-roll the yard and repeat until you are mole free.So far my record is 4 moles in 24 hours - 3 of those were inside of 3 hours of each other.Also - moles will come and take up residence where you've already killed several before so beware of that.
