I bought this because it looked neat and could be used to demonstrate heat and energy concepts for a class I teach. At $20, I didn't expect much, but this little engine runs consistently. I have now purchased 2 of these total. In both cases, the item was very well packaged, complete, and undamaged on delivery. It even includes extra parts which was a lifesaver.There isn't any assembly required other than assembling the alcohol burner and attaching the LED to the generator. The long lead of the LED will go to the terminal with the red dot.Operation: I used 91% alcohol from the drug store as fuel and it works great. It takes 20-30 seconds to get warm enough to allow the engine to sustain itself. It is very satisfying to watch it run.On the first engine, I was using a cigar torch at first to heat the glass cylinder, instead of using the included burner. I knew this was a dumb idea but I didn't have any alcohol at that time. It quickly burned a hole through the glass cyclinder. Thankfully, an extra cylinder is included and after fixing, the engine runs fine.Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of this little engine and would recommend it to anyone with a general curiosity of working machines. If you have kids, they should be supervised. I don’t remember recently purchasing something that was so nice in every way. The low price does not match the high quality. Highly recommended. It seems durable. My only suggestion is that a flame snuffer of some sort should be included and a cap for the alcohol burner I made these myself for this item.
