## Description

Product Description Director Martin Scorsese casts Robert De Niro as Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, the mob's frontman for a billion dollar Las Vegas casino. The story begins in 1973; Ace falls for hooker Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone), while boyhood companion Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) is appointed as his muscle at the club. Over the years various jealousies surface and erupt in a series of violent betrayals and, ultimately, the destruction of Rothstein's empire. From .co.uk Director Martin Scorsese reunites with members of his GoodFellas gang (writer Nicholas Pileggi; actors Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Frank Vincent) for a three-hour epic about the rise and fall of mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (De Niro), a character based on real-life gangster Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal. (It's modelled on Wiseguy and GoodFellas and Pileggi's true crime book Casino: Love and Honour in Las Vegas.) Through Rothstein, the picture tells the story of how the Mafia seized, and finally lost control of, Las Vegas gambling. The first hour plays like a fascinating documentary, intricately detailing the inner workings of Vegas casinos. Sharon Stone is the stand out among the actors; she nabbed an Oscar nomination for her role as the voracious Ginger, the glitzy call girl who becomes Rothstein's wife. The film is not as fast-paced or gripping as Scorsese's earlier gangster pictures (Mean Streets and Good Fellas) but it's still absorbing. And, hey--it's Scorsese! --Jim Emerson

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ good movie

still an enjoyable movie

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of Scorsese's best in awesome 4K visuals
*by P***L on 22 May 2025*

Casino is perfect movie about mafia and Las Vegas, with awesome cast. It doesn't feel like 3 hours movie thanks to good pace, interesting story and special kind of Scorcese's situation humor. 4K UHD release gives great picture (for great camera work and beautifully shot locations). I enjoyed the bonus features, especially documentary about real guy behind Robert DeNiro character and commentary (= cut mix of misc participants) is also good. Another positive of this release is plenty of subtitles for misc languages and - bonus features are subtitled too, which is great for me. I recommend this!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars give a 5 star performance
*by B***N on 22 March 2013*

This is quite simply a brilliant film, though not for the feint-hearted, Thoroughly entertaining and gripping throughout it charts the rise and demise in the life of a modern day gangster (Robert De Nero) in the frightening world of the hidden crime gangs, as they control and manipulate the gambling empire built by casinos. The modern day 'moll' (Sharon Stone) is terrific, and plays the part of a very sad character, a very sad reminder that for some, they really have very little chance in life to turn things round. The third central character, that of bodyguard and operations fixer (Joe Pesci), is not one to pick an argument with. In order to give a clear indication of 'the way things run' it was necessary to show scenes of explicit violence and cruelty. I felt both sympathy and 'they got what they deserved' as punishment was dished out time after time along the way. However, the thing that moved me the most about this film was that both the guilty and innocent (who just happened to get in the way) were brushed aside, showing clearly that no one was indispensable. Corruption, blackmail, money laundering, fraud, extortion are all within this tale, making it a great example of the crime thriller genre. I highly recommend this to any collector of this type of film for I'm sure you'll not be disappointed. A great cast, great story and great direction make this 5 star entertainment.
