You can plug a washing machine into the socket and the washing machine will work ok if the socket is connected to a 240vac supply. The socket is for out door use and must be used in conjunction with a 30mA RCD for safety. You would not use a washing machine out doors in the open. Do not put the socket in a washing machine. In answer to your question about fitting transformers into this electrical unit, unfortunately not the lid will not close. SORRY.What I have done is to purchase a large waterproof blank junction box and fitted it to a wooden post, fit an electrical extension lead depending on length and then you can plug in your transformer inside the junction box. Just remember to drill a couple of drain holes on the underside to let air in and condensation out, then just run your extension lead through to your 2 gang box. Hope I have not confused you to much.
