Graphite was first discovered in the 1500s in Borrowdale in the Lake District, a stones throw from Derwents first pencil factory, and the company produced the first graphite pencil in the UK. Graphite, as generously used in the sketching pencils, is still a ste of the Derwent range today. The soft, extra wide graphite core sweeps smoothly across the page for expressive lines and a fast, even lay down of tone. Four Degrees of Softness ------------------------ Included in the blister are 1 x HB, 2B and 4B Derwent sketching pencils plus an 8B watersolube sketching pencil. The four degrees of softness can be blended together to create subtle variations in tone and mood. The 2B and 4B pencils have a softer core ideal for creating soft smudge-able lines whilst the HB pencil is a middle of the range between Hard and Black. The 8B watersoluble pencil is the softest in the pack and when water is added the graphite gently dissolves into subtler tones. Once a rough sketch is down on paper the pencils can be sharpened to a fine point to add the all important detail. Ideal for Broad, Sweeping Strokes --------------------------------- Finished in black livery with a distinct grey stripe for easy identification, (the watersoluble pencil carries a blue stripe), the pencils degree is imprinted into its paintwork.
