Review: Easy to use for beginners - I bought a resin dried flower keyring from a lady on instagram the other day, and it suddenly made me want to try my hand at it myself. I'm quite crafty but had never even considered resin-making before - it is ever so overwhelming trying to find the type. There are ones for different depths of resin, and for different heat resistances... I had been looking at a cheaper brand, but as my end goal is to make coasters, it wouldn't have stood up to the temperature. I chose ArtResin even though it was more expensive than the other brands, because whilst it can't cope with heat from a saucepan if used as a trivet, it is supposed to be able to withstand a cup of coffee with no problem. I also knew that I needed a simple 1:1 ratio to limit any misteps on my part, and I liked that it was supposed to have some sort of quality that helps the bubbles fight to the surface. Not going to lie, my little test shapes have bubbles, but I'm 100% certain it is more to do with my technique; I'm getting better but practice makes perfect! I think investing in a propane torch will help, my gas lighter doesn't seem to be overly efficient. I bought gloves, a mask and goggles as recommended by other resin artists, but was surprised to find that 1) there's no way it's going to get anywhere near my eyes, 2) it doesn't irritate my skin if i get it on my fingers, and 3) I have the window cracked open but the smell really isn't that bad. People say the smell permeates the house, but I guess it doesn't with this brand. It's a big relief because I only have a tiny flat and I can't do it outdoors. It is expensive, I think it works out as £10 more than other brands but I would buy ArtResin again. You may not agree, but there's something professional and reassuring about this brand; I wasn't sure from others if I was buying the right one for my needs, whereas I knew I was with this product. I like that they have a website that gives advice and videos on youtube - and of course, the ability to withstand higher heat, 1:1 ratio and low fumes mean I would gladly pay a bit extra. I do have one gripe, or I suppose a suggestion to help newbies like me... You have to be careful not to accidentally swap the resin lid with the hardener lid, because apparently it will fuse shut. They are different colours to limit the confusion, but the inner seals are red in both bottles. I don't know if we are supposed to throw them out (I'm not going to because I don't want it leaking if it falls over), but yesterday when I was trying my hand at resin letters, I forgot to put the inner seal back on the hardener, and as I had just put down the seal on the resin, I was only 65% certain which was which. I think it was ok, but if the seals matched the lid colours, or had 'resin' or 'hardener' on it, I'd be 100% instead of worrying that I'm not going to be able to open the bottles today. I am very happy with my purchase, now all that is left is for me to carry on until I can manage clear resin so I can make my coasters :)
Review: Excellent - No toxic smell and easy to mix. Drys crystal clear but bubbles are an issue with this resin, so buy a blow torch or vacuum chamber for larger mixes. It does not dry as solid as marine grade resin, but then it’s no where near as harmful. It serves my needs perfectly at the moment but I would not use this for furniture making. We made a 10mm thick slab with both this resin and a marine grade resin and this had flex whilst the other had no give at all. Jewellery and little items, this is the one to go for. Larger pours, there are better alternatives.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it vegan?**
A: Yes it is :) Our resin does not contain any animal ingredients

**Q: How well will this bond to wood?**
A: In my experience it bonds well to wood and to oil based and acrylic paints.
However I have noted instances of poor adhesion at the edges of some paintings which have previously had alkyd or acrylic varnishes applied I don't know the reason for this but the paintings in question were on canvas finished boards and the weave texture was visible through the paint. It may be that the weave texture retains some grease or other contamination. A remedy for this may be to fully clean and dry the surface before applying resin. It may be that as the paint or varnish dries there is a bloom or surface layer containing a waxy deposit.

**Q: Can you use this on a acrylic paint pour glass vase?**
A: Yes, ArtResin works great over glass surfaces and acrylic paint. Just be sure the acrylic paint is thoroughly dry before applying ArtResin.

**Q: Can this be used to preserve flowers?**
A: Yes, many artists use ArtResin Epoxy Resin with organic matter such as flowers.

What a fantastic product. Completely odorless, very easy to use. The finish on my canvas is stunning. It looks like glass. By far the best resin I have used to date.
