I went into this with 'open eyes' and realistic expectations, knowing that this is a 'reasonably priced' product, and not expecting the same performance / quality as some of the 'big name' brands. While waiting for it to arrive (as usual amazon delivery was very quick), I did a lot of research on the AutoPumpkin forums, so knew what to expect. I was, however, pleasantly surprised with the unit.Install was VERY simple, with the only thing I needed to buy being an ISO Harness specific to my car (i.e. to connect the car's wiring harness to the ISO adaptor that is on the Pumpkin stereo). The unit fits well in the existing double DIN cage in my car, with the only issue being that it sticks out a little more than I would have liked (compared to the unit it was replacing, which was flush with the dash).From cold start, the unit boots up in about 35 seconds, which is actually pretty reasonable for the spec of this machine. If you turn off ignition, head unit goes into 'deep sleep' mode, and when you turn on ignition, it starts up in about 2 seconds. Very impressive.I also connected a reversing camera to this unit, which works wonders. The headunit automatically switches to show the reversing camera as soon as I engage reverse, even if the unit is still booting up from a cold boot (this obviously only works if you connect the correct wire on the headunit, as per installation instructions). The headunit can add guidance lines to the video signal (in case your reversing camera doesn't have them) and I THINK that you can disable these if you want - I will be looking to do this, as they are aimed a little 'too high' for the angle my camera is installed at (if I find it's NOT possible to disable these lines, I will update this review accordingly).The launcher used on this unit is basic, yet functional. I REALLY like that the radio widget allows you to turn on / off radio directly from the widget, as well as change up and down between stored stations, directly from the widget. Pity I can't use this widget on third party launchers that I have used the head unit. The only 'issue' I have with the stock launcher is that it is a little basic for me (I'm one of those people that loves lots of widgets running on his home screen), and you are unable to add further widgets to the default home screen page with the default launcher (but you can to the additional pages that you can scroll right to).You are able to listen to music / radio while a navigation apop is running, and there is a setting that lets you specify how voice directions interact with other audio (replace - only when there are directions or 'merge' - drop volume of audio (I seem to remember you can specify how much to drop the volumne) and plan the voice directions on top of the audio)The amplifier on this headunit is pretty good for the price, and sound is clear and crisp (this obviously requires decent speakers, as even the most expensive amp in the world will sound horrible on bad quality speakers). I like that you can separately connect and control a subwoofer. There are also separate outputs for an external amplifier if you want to use one. The amplifier app included onb the head unit seems to do the job it was designed for pretty well.The touch screen is pretty responsive, and image is clear. As long as your wiring harness has the correct signal wires (which most cars do), when you turn on te headlights on your car, the display on the head unit dims accordingly (so it's not too bright at night). If you change the screen brightness with headlights on, this is stored separately to when headlights are off. This means you can set the brightness as it suits you for both day and night.Performance wise this head unit handles most things I throw at it, though it can be a little slow with loading apps sometimes. Just use the 'rocket ship' shortcut on the drop down shortcut bar, and background processes are terminated, speeding things up again). Only real complaint I have about performance is that it does take quite long (as mentioned in other reviews / on the forums) to install and update apps from the Google Play Store. It SEEMS that this is an issue with how the unit works with Playstore itself, because installing from locally stored APK filse (i.e. sideloading) is pretty quick. This is NOT to do with the internet connection, as speed tests have shown that the wifi connection is working fine, and the 4G modem I am using is transferring content at around 35MBpsNOTE - even though the head unit has an SD slot marked GPS, it does NOT come with an SD Card and preloaded maps. You can either install your own navigation software or use Google Maps. If you contact Pumpkin customer support with details about your purchase, they will send you a free version of iGO navigation, relevant to your region, which you can copy to an SD card of your choosing, and then insert in the GPS card slot. I like that you can specify which app is loaded when you click the 'Navi' button on the head unit. I have not tested navigation yet, as my car is sat in the garage being worked on, but the head unit seems to be able to get a satellite lock without any issues, even though the car is sat inside an old barn. There's also a handy little 'GPS Info' app that let's you see the status of the satellite lock of the navigation module.I may be getting an additional car in the near future, and there is a very strong possibility I will get another Pumpkin head unit for that car too (maybe the Octo Core one, for just that little bit extra oomph)I'll be using the headunit more often in the near future and will update this review if I have more to add.As things stand, I would currently recommend this unit as a decently priced alternative to the more costly media / navigation head units out there.-EDIT- I read another review about the headunit passing a lot of line noise to the speakers. I have not noticed anything of this sort on my car, and the car this is installed in is 22 years old ('95 Honda Prelude). In fact, the previous setup I had in this car involved a Nexus 7 tablet, linked to a 200w AMP, which then went to the speakers and that setup DID pass line noise, so this headunit is actually way better in this aspect. Trying to eliminate line noise and interference can be a tricky task, and this unit probably does user 'cheaper' components than the big name devices out there, but so far it seems fine in my setup.In addition, as I mentioned earlier, sometimes the unit can get a little slow, but then you do need to consider the hardware this is running on... it's not the fastest out there (hence price is less) and I would say this device is probably designed to do 2 or 3 things at the same time (music, navigation and updates), so expecting it to still be very responsive when running multiple tasks may lead to disappointments.
