His lore has been changed to make more sense and a bigger impact. The Merchant is in this game just like the original, to be honest he is just the same which is a good thing, he's reliable, we love him. To clarify, I have played the remake first then the original so I truly went in this game blind and I highly suggest going in blind, spoiler free too. I'm trying not to give spoilers in this but the game was not that scary, more so thrilling.
