Knowing nothing about the discipline of management prior to reading this book, I now have a much better grasp of it.  And I have a much better idea of which texts, studies, and authors to follow up on if I want to learn more.  Thank you Oxford U Press and Professor Hendry!

I had to read this book for one of my classes, and it was the worst book I have ever read. It is supposed to be a short introduction, but sits at about 120 pages, which is not short to me. Each chapter is extremely dull and boring, and could have been summed up in a few paragraphs. Not only was the content bad, but the book is really small, and therefore, harder to hold than it could have been.

We work in a lab network and we’re given this book to read for new managers.  What a great read and introduction to modern concepts of management!  It’s small enough to fit in our labcoats and we can read it on the fly, which is great!  The format of these books is great as these very short introductions are peer reviewed globally so they aren’t just british-centric, but truly offer a modern and current representation on how management has changed through the decades and how modern managers aren’t just telling people what to do all day, rather we collect and transfer information throughout our organizations.
