The spiral binding allows this to lay flat as you work. The paper is high quality 100% cotton. I can use masking tape along the edges for a border and the tape removes cleanly without any issues. The paper works flawlessly for both wet on wet painting and wet on dry. I get a nice texture that’s exactly what I would expect with consistent results. The paper is thick and durable. There is some slight warping, but it’s better than other brands I’ve tried. I think warped paper is just part of the process of watercolor painting when you don’t tape your paper to solid surface, but you can’t really do that when you are painting in a notebook style pad. Arches is a bit on the expensive side, but it is good quality paper. Sometimes you just have to treat yourself. If watercoloring makes you happy, do it on good paper!
