The Ruff 'n' Tumble Serve 'n' Sling Retractable Ball Thrower from Sharples & Grant is an suitable toy that dogs love to play fetch. The extendable arm allows you to throw the ball further than normal, making sure your four legged friend has to work during their playtime. The grip on the end makes it easy to pick up and retrieve muddy balls without getting your hands dirty and makes for an easy to remember place to keep balls between walks.

It is sturdy and strong, whilst at the same time it can be retracted so that it fits in a rucksack or carrier bag. The only problem encountered at first was a tendency to fire the balls straight down at the ground a few feet ahead of me. However after some experimentation I discovered the technique that works. With my previous ball launchers I needed to use an overhead launch, rather like the service action in tennis, whereas this one works best if I use it with a sideways swing, more like a ground stroke in tennis. So now I can send a ball whistling off into the distance. My very energetic Border Collie is impressed! A good product, not cheap but you get what you paid for.

This is the 4th one I’ve owned. Replaced mainly due to wear, used at least twice a day over last 10+Years. Cheap ball provided but tennis ball size, my personal replacement is the Chuckit Ultra ball, which my dogs love, and able to launch a good distance.
