Product Description Jacquard Products-Jacquard Procion MX Dye. Use this dye for immersion dyeing tie dye batik airbrushing garment dyeing screen printing spatter painting gradation dyeing and more. It is a cold water fibre reactive dye when added to tap water it is the most vivid of all dyes for cellulose fibres. It will dye all cellulose and some protein fibres. This package contains a 2/3oz jar of dye. Powder solution changes colour when adding water. Final result matches bottle label. Available in a variety of colours Conforms to ASTM D 4236. Made in USA. Review: Good quality product! - Great product! I was attempting to change a thick material set of overalls from orange to black however, the original colour was quite bright to put it mildly. The garment is heavy for a piece of clothing but with one pot, it darkened to a very dull purple. I am confident that another use of this product will result in a perfect, jet black colour. Consistent colouring throughout and has held the shade through several machine washes. Highly recommended as I am sure the results would have been a lot better if the garment was not such a bright orange and/or was a lot lighter in weight. Read many positive reviews on this brand and I am happy to agree with them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I plan on using this brand of dye (assorted colors) to dye 100% cotton rugs. Can you tell me what other products  I might need to buy?**
A: Tracy.  If you plan on vat dying look into getting the big bottles of powdered dye either from Jacquard direct or from Dharma trading.  These little bottles are only meant to make 2 cups of dye at the correct concentration.  Yes you should prewash with a good detergent like syntropol or Dharmas pro detergent.  Then soak your rugs in a solution of 1 c soda ash per gallon of water (can use super washing soda, it's the same thing and cheaper) If you have hard water you may need a water softener like Calgon.  If you are using dark colors you'll need pickling salt and urea to make your dye solution.  The darker the color the more Salt.  Gloves are a given.... but I suggest drop clothes and a good vinyl apron (cut one from an old felt backed plastic table cloth)   Remember these dyes require a 24 hours processing time after you've dyed your item.  put them in garbage bags and set them somewhere warm.  Then you can rinse and wash.

**Q: Can you use this to dye water to shoot out of a fire truck for a gender reveal?**
A: Oh no, no, no......not unless you want permanent blue (or pink) spots on any fabric it touches. Look for a food quality vegetable dye - check bakery suppliers.

**Q: does this come with soda ash or do I need to buy it separately?**
A: Buy washing soda from Arm & Hammer (it is soda ash) or cook some baking soda as the other answer says.

**Q: Will this dye polyester fabrics??**
A: No. It has to be a 100% organic material - cotton, silk, wool. When I've died items with polyester stiching, it remains white as the rest of the material dyes the color. Also, this product has to be used with a soda ash soak, which helps the dye to adhere/bond to the fabric better. Hope that helped.....
