The YOUCANIC OBD2 Scanner is a universal, plug-and-play diagnostic tool compatible with most cars, SUVs, and trucks from 1996 onward. It supports nine protocols and features a built-in DTC lookup library, real-time engine data display, emission readiness checks, and the ability to read and clear engine fault codes. Compact and battery-free, it empowers vehicle owners to proactively monitor engine health and emission status, saving time and costly repairs.

## Description

This scanner will only diagnose the Engine Control Unit. If you need support for other systems the YOUCANIC full system scanner is required. 1. Read Engine Codes - DTCsRead fault codes from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and find out why your check engine light is on.2. Erase CodeClear fault codes once you fix the problem. This will turn off the Check Engine Light. When fault codes are cleared without fixing the problem, the check engine light and codes return immediately after an engine restart or within a couple of days. 3. Live Engine DataDisplay real-time data from sensors that send information to the ECU. 4. Freeze FrameView the data recorded when an emission-related fault occurs5. Verify Emission ReadinessCheck I/M readiness status to determine if your car will pass the emission test (smog test). All I/M monitors should show OK or N/A to pass an emission test. If any systems show incomplete (INC), you won't pass the smog test even if the check engine light is OFF. 6. On-Board Monitor and O2 TestRetrieve the test results for emission-related powertrain systems and components that are not continuously monitored to figure out onboard monitor issues. In testing mode and may not work on all vehicle makes. 7. DTC LookupEnables you to look up what any fault code means. Will this work on my car? The YOUCANIC UCAN-I OBD-II scanner will work on any vehicle sold in the US from 1996 to the present. It will not work on electric cars—sorry, Tesla owners.What systems will this scanner diagnose? This scanner will diagnose the heart of your vehicle, the engine, often called the ECU, ECM, or PCM. While it will show transmission codes as well, such as P0720, P0700 it is not pulling those codes from the Transmission Control Unit (TCU).

So if your check engine light is not on, but there is a potential problem, take a look at pending codes. I think this feature is brilliant and I plan on using it when I buy a used car next time. That way I don't need to wonder if the seller cleared the codes because they will show up under pending even if the check engine light is not on. Clearing the codes is as easy as reading them. It did clear one code I had even without me fixing the issue but the check engine light came back again eventually which makes sense. Lastly, I saw that it has the option to check the I/M readiness, which basically shows if the car will pass the smog test as long as the systems are market with OK or Not Applicable (N/A).

Amazing product! Save hundreds of dollars with this inexpensive tool. This is a must-have for any car owner whether you know how to fix cars or not. I keep one in the glovebox. Using it is very easy. This is not your typical OBD-II sanner. This one gets into technical stuff. I learned to use a few of the functions from YOUCANIC videos. I learned enough to find out if my car would pass the emission test before I even go to the testing station. If you are willing to take the time and learn how to use this scanner, you'll be glad you bought it. I'm very pleased with my purchase. It's small and compact yet it offers the same if not more functionality than some of the more expensive scanners. Great scanner, great price!

Seems to be a "good" product for the money, but instructions are super confusing - like you already need to be a mechanic and know the lingo. I would rather spend more on one that's easier to follow and that has instructions that are written in plain English. I actually didn't find the product useful at all because of how technical the instructions are.
