I'll keep it short... Like several other reviewers have said it's great... a welcome return to form that Rivers and the boys should be proud of, best album since Maladroit.. The hooks are back, consistently.. not just one or two good songs but a whole album of good melodies... My only gripe would be that production wise (actually it maybe a mastering issue) there is a bit of a muddy sound to the album as a whole in comparison to the last couple of albums... Pat's drums are not bright enough... no treble on the cymbals... even the vocals are a bit muddy in places.. but that's a production thing, song-wise it's great... Review: Everything will be alright in the end. Honestly. - Weezer are (finally, after such a long, long time) officially back. This is easily their best work since Maladroit if not Pinkerton, the latter being one of my favourite albums of all time. This is without a doubt my album of the year, if not the last few years. I honestly thought Weezer were done, don't get me wrong there have been some good songs across the past few albums but they were few and far between. EWBAITE is not here to be broken down track by track, it is here to be listened to as an album from front to back and appreciated as an excellent Weezer album. No matter what Weezer do from here on in they will always have their work compared to The Blue Album and Pinkerton and it is very hard to not do so. I really hope this record gets the critical acclaim it deserves, from the majority of reviews I have read the response has been extremely positive. I, like most other fans have become increasingly frustrated with each release after Maladroit and when I heard there was a new album coming this year my expectations were not very high, to say the least. I wouldn't say any of their albums are bad, but some I clearly enjoy listening to more than others, which is the same for any artist I guess. And on that note already I see myself coming back to EWBAITE more frequently. It's a good album, it's solid right through and has some great stand alone tracks too. I'm just not 19 anymore so it will never speak to me the same way blue or pinkerton did, but that's ok, and my kids enjoy watching me rock out like a lunatic every now and again too.
