## Description

From renowned cardiac surgeon Steven R. Gundry, MD, the New York Times bestselling The Plant Paradox is a revolutionary look at the hidden compounds in "healthy" foods like fruit, vegetables, and whole grains that are causing us to gain weight, trigger inflammation, and develop chronic disease. Most of us have heard of gluten―a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we’ve been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox , renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, plant-based protein called lectin. Lectins are found not only in grains like wheat but also in the “gluten-free” foods most of us commonly regard as healthy, including many fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and conventional dairy products. These proteins, which are found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds, and leaves of plants, are designed by nature to protect them from predators (including humans). Once ingested, they incite a kind of chemical warfare in our bodies, causing inflammatory reactions that can lead to weight gain, leaky gut syndrome, and serious health conditions. At his waitlist-only clinics in California, Dr. Gundry has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, diabetes, leaky gut syndrome, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases with a protocol that detoxes the cells, repairs the gut, and nourishes the body. Now, in The Plant Paradox , this essential healthy eating guide shares his clinically proven program with readers around the world. The simple (and daunting) fact is, lectins are everywhere. Thankfully, Dr. Gundry offers simple hacks we easily can employ to avoid them, including: Peel your veggies. Most of the lectins are contained in the skin and seeds of plants; simply peeling and de-seeding vegetables (like tomatoes and peppers) reduces their lectin content. Shop for fruit in season. Fruit contain fewer lectins when ripe, so eating apples, berries, and other lectin-containing fruits at the peak of ripeness helps minimize your lectin consumption. Swap your brown rice for white. Whole grains and seeds with hard outer coatings are designed by nature to cause digestive distress―and are full of lectins. With a full list of lectin-containing foods and simple substitutes for each, a step-by-step detox and eating plan, and delicious lectin-free recipes, The Plant Paradox illuminates the hidden dangers lurking in your salad bowl―and shows you how to eat whole foods in a whole new way.

Review: that thing about green veg and other stuff most interesting that you never knew - got it for the kindle reader and as you know somethings and sometimes you start to read and get so far into the book...'s with a kindle yes it'll save where you've read to.. the furthest point. and as often as not, the thing will lose charge in the times i'm not using it so when you open it up after re-powering it'll take you back to the book list and as you scan through you'll see a title and think did i finish that story.. let's have a look. As is the case with this book got well into it it was interesting yes even if it is from an American standpoint it still applies here in the uk as we seem to have adopted most if not all US farming practices the very worse of animal husbandry and with crop growing systems on an industrial scale most of these have been imported from the land of the so called free. so this book was an eye opener to the truth of the failure of the American diet(dream) and the fat epidemic. but also it shines a light on other little known causes for chronic ill health and still in practice here, most touted as healthy eating by the nhs with nothing changed from the low fat is good for you and no fat is even better lie. and the lies about heat refined vegetable oil being good for the body and sugar is not harmful or addictive fib. and how it is next to impossible to escape from it as their all used in everything with deceptive names and clauses so it doesn't have to be declared on the ingredient list even when they say it is free from those nasty bad ingredients how the big stores allow it all to be in the product just to keep making large profits from the sugar addicted ignorance of their consumers Any how back to the book, it will open your mind to all the things you need to be aware of if you want to have a healthy pain free life, it'll show you the truth. things that you really should know that are not taught anywhere, not in schools or ever on the tv. and defiantly never offered by your private/general practise doctor pill pusher with the, take a couple of these you'll feel better drug med philosophy makes them seem Hench-gentleman/lady's and zombie droog's of the big pharma corporate monster. though i didn't need the book as i'd seen a few of the authors vlogs on youtube that go into greater depth and detail on all the subjects in this book And much much more he introduces other and varied health and life ideas by medical specialists world wide. a vast knowledge base to be explored at leisure pick and chose what you think you might follow and get round to being as and when the penny drops and understanding seeps in helps your aim in banging that nail home beat the flab and beat the aches and pains what to avoid or limit so much you didn't know, you didn't know.
Review: The book is not easy reading (twice with highlighting in my case) but well ... - The book is not easy reading (twice with highlighting in my case) but well worth the effort!!! Dr Gundry's supplements are good but expensive (especially when shipped to the UK with added VAT) but following the main part of the book as a lifestyle change eating plan,, taking B Complex supplements, Vit D and a multivit and mineral tablet every day still cannot fail to get results. As a healthy but very overweight 68 year old sweet- toothed vegetarian, in Jan 2017 his 'Diet Evolution' simply clicked with me, and I followed the suggestion in it, and now have adapted fully to the Plant Paradox plan. Weight lose is slow but steady, but the other benefits more than make up for this. I've cured my sweet tooth addiction, and now experience a lovely sense of well-being. None of this is a quick fix, it's not easy but VERY beneficial: visible results are not only external but also internal. I did and will continue to buy the Vital Reds supplement because loving fruit, I know I must limit it to a max to avoid sugar cravings. Vital Reds contain fruit extracts but mixed with yogurt (goat milk) it doesn't cause further sugar cravings. Dr Gundry's supplements aren't cheap, especially as you have to add vat to UK imports, and sometimes especially in his first book, there is a little bit too much American hard sell of his products. However, much to his credit he seems to have realized that not everyone's budget is infinitely elastic, and cheaper alternatives are frequently presented in the Plant Paradox. Super book, super plans and super doctor. I've ignored his debunkers-hope you will too! .

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strictly eliminating foods with these bad lectins completely clear up all my symptoms
*by J***T on 13 December 2017*

This book is a MUST READ if you suffer from any kind of autoimmune disease. I've had psoriasis, joint pains and stomach issues for 20 years and tried almost everything I could find. Avoiding certain lectins, as described in the book by Dr. Gundry, is the ONLY thing that has been able to completely clear up all my symptoms (and within days). I have always followed the official recommendations to always opt for whole grains and eaten lot's of Nightshade fruits and vegetables. Little have I known that I have only damaged myself all these years by eating that stuff. Strictly eliminating foods with these bad lectins completely clear up all my symptoms. I do not care what the critics of Dr. Gundry say, because IT REALLY WORKS FOR ME when I take the bad lectins completely away! If I e.g. just eat a single cashew nut, a slice of whole grain bread or a small portion of mashed potatoes then my issues start again about 2-4 hours later and it will continue for a day or two. Again: Staying completely away from these bad lectins foods completely keep my symptoms away. This book contain the most important health information that I have ever learned. and if you too also have an autoimmune disease I strongly recommend that you at least try following the plant paradox for a period of time. It is a well written book by a highly reputable MD. It is easy to read and understand and the claims are backed up with reputable scientific references and based on his works with thousands and thousands of real people over many years.
