One pill, one ability, a superpower of sorts useful or pointless, good or bad (A Bertie Bots every flavoured bean of the designer drug world.) Want one? That will be $1 Million. M is the drug that everyone wants but only the super rich can afford. It isn’t long before M2 reaches the market, same super power but at a fraction of the price, what could possible go wrong?For Griffin, a self proclaimed EmFree, his world comes tumbling down when his girlfriend gains an ability through taking M2 at a new years party. His relationship in tatters he starts to plot his revenge against those who took his girlfriend from him, a small victory becoming a horror story and a spiral of events snowballing into catastrophe.This is a real heart thumper of a ride, from Griffin’s first successful yet misguided attack through to the terrifying end, this is a book you will not want to put down. Thinking back now there are so many issues woven into this story, some will break your heart and many will have you thinking long after the last page. It’s set in the future, but it’s not so distant that it isn’t out of reach, many of the ideas are within grasp and that’s what makes it all the more exciting and terrifying. The science bit is super sciency and the twists you won’t see coming, so i’ll be quiet about those!The characters are amazing, Articus Bane is the most charismatic bad guy and Griffin can be kind of annoying as a protagonist, he’s certaining not your typical hero, if you can even call him that at times. There are certainly a number of failing moral compasses going on and the lines are often blurred between doing the right thing and doing what they think is right.If you want a fast paced, thoughtful, heartbreaking and terrifying read, take a dose of M. 5 amazing stars! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This Is No Spoonful of Sugar *by L***S on 28 July 2015* The premise of this book caught my attention right away. The gritty, far off future (or near future?) where a wonder pill gives superhuman enhancements. It's an environment where taking a generic vs. a name-brand drug could possibly make a huge difference, and yet, it seemed that no one except the main character, Griffin, cares a lick about the potential dangers. We are thrust into Griffin's life and his confrontation with his girlfriend and the drug, M, in the first chapter. Things literally heat up immediately after that, and as the reader, you are in for a wild ride. This was an interesting read, where it became hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys and made you wonder how far a character might go for his own convictions/motivations. I can't say that I connected with Griffin, but I did like several of his comrades. The twists made this a page-turning journey, and the story is well written and well edited. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great, action packed YA read! *by T***Z on 6 July 2015* M is a young adult novel written from an omniscient view point. The story is set in the future and follows a seventeen year old boy's struggle with main stream culture. Griffin is frustrated with people choosing to take "M" and "M2", drugs that give humans special abilities. When his girlfriend takes the drug he is determined to stop the producers. His passion for revenge comes with consequences Griffin doesn't expect. As an adult reader I was impressed how accurately the teen's thoughts, actions, and motivations were portrayed.
