I have other gold ink pads and they work fine on black paper. **Q: Will this ink wash off if I put it on a matte plastic lid?** A: This is a water based pigment ink designed for use on porous surfaces. I stamped it on a matte plastic lid and dried it. I did not even need to use water for it to come right off with a tissue. Staz On has recently come out with a gold metallic ink. Overall, happy with the gilding it produced. Con: First time using this, so I may be wrong, but the quantity should have been more. Maybe these are only made for art, so using it for text-block gilding demands allot of ink that this was not designed for? I wish there was more ink provided in the pad, but maybe this was never the intention of this product (text-block gilding). Overall: Great product, but I wish the pad provided more ink-product. Maybe there are other products designed more for text-block gilding? Not sure.
