Well, in reality it can be a slow and laborious task, especially if it’s not something you’ve done often before. One of the slowest parts is creating a ‘chamfer’ edge where you have just cut a pipe. This is the sloped edge used to make using the ‘push-fit’ fittings slide on easier and improves the seating of the joints internally. If you have ever found yourself temped in the past to “persuade” a pipe into a fitting with a hammer, it may well be down to a poor chamfer. Many people (myself in the past included) try to get away without this step, but in reality, that’s very bad practice and a chamfer is something you are better off doing. How to use: It’s as simple as attaching this tool to a drill that can take an SDS drill bit. Fit the pipe you want to chamfer into the cutting edge of the tool – it basically self-centres. Turn on your drill – I would suggest not on too high a speed to start with. (The first test chamfer I did went flying out of my hands! I’d start slow and then ramp up the speed.) You might need to tilt the drill a bit, depending on how even your initial cut was, but apply a steady pressure. I don’t think I’ve had to run the tool for more than 10/15 seconds on any pipe I’ve used it on. My verdict: I’ve used this tool quite a lot, especially on creating/improving the chamfers on pre-existing pipes. It does the job well, and is especially useful when you only have a small amount of pipe to work with – i.e. pipe protruding out of buried concrete/a wall/the ground. It also has the added benefit of evening out less than straight cuts significantly. (I tested this several times, both on ‘uneven’ cuts that weren’t square and ‘wonky’ cuts where there were protrusions and scoring in the cut. In each case, the tool was able to reduce if not eliminate the worst features of the cut. Starting with a straight cut is definitely still the way to go, but it’s an interesting feature of the tool that might get someone out of a bind sometime.) There are other tools for chamfering available – thanks to a current project I am working on, I have several – but this is a particularly cost effective one. That is the first big plus to this tool. The second is speed. Messing with a sanding block or a file can take an age with a soil pipe, especially if your file is too worn. This tool is very fast to use. 10 seconds and you have a decent chamfer. Third is versatility. This tool will fit on the end of any 110mm pipe, and you don’t need any particularly onerous amount of clearance. Should of had one years ago. Really easy to use and quick. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works *by L***B on 4 May 2021* I got this for a significant reconfiguration job on a home sewage system. The chamfer tool is quite effective and puts a workable - if not perfect - edge on 110mm pipes. Best to develop a feel for it by trying out on a few disposable ends first. Ensure pipe is firmly anchored, start slowly and in 10-15 seconds you'll be ready to insert into the receiver. The lubricant that comes with it is a very small amount - but worth having. Between the edging and lubricant you'll have no problem joining pipes. Well worth it for labour saving if you have a lot of joins to make. It arrived promptly - why only 4 stars? Despite being a Prime member - being in Ireland I was stung for hefty P&P charge. Also unsure how long the actual cutting edge of the tool would last. No way to replace the blades - so store somewhere dry.
