We have had some in the past that the raccoons have gotten a hold of and destroyed so I wanted one with a flat top to weigh it down and prevent that. This one fit the bill and was priced right so i grabbed it. The instructions were clear and the setup was easy. I was able to program several feedings a day into it to ensure the cat gets food during the day as the raccoons will also take advantage of it at night. The hopper holds quite a bit of food, more than we need to add for the 2 days we are gone and the feeder is working as intended. I was able to weight it down on top with several bricks and there is no way a raccoon can drag it off now. I won't need it all the time but its nice to have the peace of mind when we are out of town and to know the cat is getting fed (As well as several stray cats in our area). So far its durable, easy to clean as the feeding tray pops off and the quantity of a meal is programmable so I can ensure the cat is fed without over feeding her or every animal within a mile. I have it undercover on a back porch so the weather won't affect it so I can't speak of outdoor durablilty yet but it seems to be solidly built. Im happy with the purchase and prefer this one over the way more expensive one I had in the past Review: The manual serving is tricky to use but works great when you figure it out - Using the D cells it seems to work okay. Was easy to set up. Could have used slightly better settings instructions. The cat food is the right size for feeding. Wanted to test it using the manual method. Thought it didn’t work by the instructions the said. Seriously need to be more specific about using the two buttons up and down. By accident it worked perfectly by holding the up button continuously and pushing the down button intermittently for every serving size you want. Other than that it seems to be a good product and not skidding around here. So one day you can set 4 meals and each meal is 9 portion, totally one day will be 36 portion. Is it feeding him 3/4 cup each time or through all feeding is it 3/4 a day?** A: a serving on this feeder is about 1 tablespoon. There are 12 tablespoons in 3/4 cup. So if you want to feed your cat 4 times a day then you should program it for 3 portions for each time you choose.. I am using it plugged in (with battery backup). It also worked consistently with the battery (no issues with short-changing the cats on food). I think it uses a proper mechanical dispensing system, not one that relies on a rubber band, so dispensing seems to be quick and consistent. In the digital age, it would be lovely if there was a low level warning. The only think I don't really like is the very loud beep with every push of the buttons to adjust clock, time, meal sizes, etc. Otherwise it is easy to use. The instructions that came with it were helpful. The best benefits: the cats don't wake me up early anymore (unless I let it run out of food). I am using one feeder for three cats. It holds food for more than one week but I now make a habit of filling it weekly. When I am on holidays, this gives my cat sitter more flexibility on when she comes to check on the cats.
