Review: Lighthearted and carefree. - Primitive Man play a raw, scabrous type of sludge that withstands comparisons to the most horrible dirges the genre has to offer. Frontman Ethan lets loose with a throat-scraping howl somewhere between Chris Barnes of Cannibal corpse and a polar bear smashing it's nuts in a car door, with a grimy bass rumble underscoring the whole sordid affair. It's witheringly heavy stuff, more in line with bands like Khanate (their first album at least) or Corrputed than relatively more melodic fair (for sludge at any rate) like crowbar. Every now and then it breaks into a sudden lurch of speed that threatens to dislocate vertebrae, before crashing back into a sick, trampling groove. If you like your sludge bleak and hopeless as an orphanage fire, look no further.
