I'm a pro with Ikea furniture. This didn't come with instructions, just know you will need to put a lot of pressure on the top piece to get the pneumatic part to "click." I had to use my entire body weight (130#) to get it to snap together and work. But, I love this stool so far.Pro tip: Adjust the setting so you can lean (on your back) and have the stool in between your shoulder blades and let your arms hang. Great chest opener. I had to add anti grip pads to the bottom as the base is made of some hard plastic which was sliding around on my pseudo-wood floors. I have to take off two stars though since it's VERY uncomfortable to sit on for any extended period of time. The base is very heavy and the overall construction is sturdy. You must put your full weight on the stool to ensure connection of the base--otherwise it might fall off and smash your toe when you try to carry the stool. I bought this stool for my recording studio but find myself using it all over the house--at my makeup table and instead of a regular desk chair.
