I need a silent timer..** A: No you can't BUT you can tape over the speaker grill on the back - which will hugely reduce the volume. That's what I've done. I really don't need this for cooking - I have another for that - this is for practice timing and task timing - so the taped over speaker - this is the way to go for a simple near fix. Or as someone else said - open it up and see if you can disconnect the speaker....or jam it. On the other hand this is what you get with a cheap timer. **Q: Will the alarm turn off when time set has elapsed** A: I'm told it continues for 60 secs after the time has elapsed although have never actually left it that long. **Q: Can you use it as a stop watch?
