Notice black-dark side is near outlet, filter side is sort of grey, back side is white. Not shown is 1/4 inch foam pad paper filter sits on with small cutout to allow room inlet air from top to go thru filter to reach exit at bottom. Where this filter goes beyond the manufacturers filter is this one has a clear cover which allows you to see the condition (dirt), of the filter material. Looking into the filter housing, the filtering layers of the item shows multiple layers. The more layers the better the filtration. It is unknown if the manufacturers filter is constructed in the same manner because the manufacturers filter has a solid color cover.
