I run mine via one of the USB3.0 ports on a Dell Laptop. Unless M/S have put limits on their Surface USB ports, I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I make no guarantees of course **Q: My dvd drive on the laptop was disabled by downloading windows 8 (driver removed from registry) will this work without the missing driver?** A: Hi It is plug and play device so I think yes.
