Review: Great boxed stock - High quality boxed stock. It's not as good as I can make myself, but it's nice to have this on hand if homemade stock is not an option. The price? Astonishing. 99 cents for a quart. Nuff said
Review: pantry staple, excellent size for smaller cooking needs, add splash of flavor, healthy cooking - These are 8.25 ounce mini containers of broth. While pricy in comparison to the large 32 ouncers that can be purchased, this is a size I greatly appreciate for many of my needs. I like it for making a quick soup, or a quick sipping broth. Just add some bits of left over food and spices. I use it when I just need a splash for flavor and/or healthy cooking. I can do that with the large containers too, but I simply dont want to buy/use the large containers all the time. There is NO mystery about what I am buying here, so for that reviewer that is crying over the size, I ask.. why did you buy it? Currently $32.82 for a box of 12, which makes is $2.74 each. Competitive with local stores, if not cheaper. Obviously bigger containers are cheaper and therefor provide more bang for buck. But if you just want the occasional use item, a convenience item, this is perfectly good. I like the flavor just fine. I usually buy their low or no sodium option. Works for convenient noodle bowls at the office. I will keep a couple bottles of this and some precooked noodles, rice or whatever (shelf stable kind that can sit in my drawer), then I just bring in some fresh bits of food to add to it all. Best by date isnt a hard expiration date. If you bought from the warehouse, you may have a shorter date than a regular purchase. All fine, and all fine well beyond the date. It is not a safety date. Be smart, understand what the dates signify and save a few bucks by not tossing the moment the date rolls over. Plenty of good sites to confirm what the dates mean and why we have them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between stock and bone broth? I honestly thought they were the same.**
A: Stock is a rich, savory liquid prepared by simmering bones and vegetables in water for hours with herbs and spices until the flavor is extracted. Stock derives its flavor primarily from the protein, not from heavy sodium. As a result, stock is usually a healthier product, delivering a richer mouth feel and deeper flavor than broth. Stock is a versatile culinary tool that can deliver taste to any number of dishes. Darker in color and more concentrated in flavor than broth, it's ideal for use in soups, rice, sauces and more. Customize it to your preference by adding salt as needed.

Broth is stock's cousin but has some key differences. Although both stock and broth involve simmering in water, broth uses meat while stock uses bones. As a result, broth contains very little protein, a key ingredient in building flavor. Additionally, broth often does not contain vegetables or herbs, thereby requiring higher sodium levels to impart flavor. The notable exception to this is bone broth, which is made like a stock but commonly referred to as a broth.

**Q: Is "chicken flavor" another way of saying it *does* contain free glutamate (as bad as msg)?**
A: MSG is a chemical that causes some people headaches etc. It is not a good chemical to consume. I thought MSG was banned years ago. In 60's-70's there was talk about the health risks of msg. Something about collecting in the body or brain etc. Why would you want to put msg in your body, stick w/ natural salt.

**Q: Why isn't this labelled vegan? is the vegetable broth not vegan? none of the ingreduents indicate dairy or?**
A: Kitchen Basics Unsalted Vegetable Broth is vegan friendly. I will let our eCommerce team you are interested in this information being added to the product description on Amazon. ~ Erica

**Q: How far out is the expiration date? It will take a while to use 12 boxes so I need to know. Thanks.**
A: Hi there,

The product image shown on Amazon captures general information about a product. A best-by date is printed on each product and is different for each production batch. Best-by dates on our products are typically 6-12 months or longer, and you can view the best-by date on the product packaging upon receipt of your purchase. If you have a concern about the best by date of a product you received, please contact Amazon. ~ Erica
