This is the case with both mouthsticks and headpointers. In the special situation where the pointer itself is also non-conductive - like the Kinetic Mouthstick Stylus - there's a conductive sleeve inside the hollow plastic pointer to make it work. **Q: Is the mouth piece part sturdy? The one I just bought two months ago already broke .** A: It is sturdier than the Joy telescoping mouthstick, however I just got it recently. So far it is holding up better than most. I really like this mouthstick and hope it holds up better than the others. **Q: Does this come with that holder?** A: No it does not. Holders are important and we have had to customize them for our patients. Needs silicone slipcovers! *by J***Z on February 9, 2021* was originally fairly disappointed however I had some silicone sleeves from a previous mouth stick which fit nicely and actually stay on better than they did on the prior mouth stick. Definitely moves this product from a three star to a five-staras it is lighter in weight, very responsive stylus tips. I stress though that you will need to purchase the slip on silicone mouthpiece covers which are available on another site.after posting the previous rather complimentary rating I have used this mouth stick for another 10 days and it has started to come disconnected at the joints where the mouthpiece plugs into the shank. This makes it worthless. Useless! Unusable. Save your moneyProduct continues to disappoint. After wiring it together at the joint that kept falling apart, I am getting some use of it until my new one arrives.
