It's made very solidly and durably with a tough plastic that I can't easily bend. The problem that causes latch replacement being necessary is when I lift up the covered stowage compartment with items resting on top of the lid, which is the the floor of the cargo area of the vehicle, and we always have stuff in the back of the vehicle. And the OEM latch is not very strong, so that eventually the latch breaks off when I try to get it open a couple of inches with heavy stuff on top of it. This replacement latch installs easily and fits perfectly with the included two screws - which I did not need because I had the original screws, but it was nice to get hardware included. Would this work on a soft close drawer?** A: By adjusting the closeness of the latch and the bracket you should be able to control the force required.
