I am a contractor and finish carpenter and they were still a lot of work for me. I ordered doors that were slab only, not prehung. That way they didn't have old hinge pockets on them. Then I did a bunch of math, and designed a template in 3D software so I could use a router guide for the pocket cuts. I then 3D printed the 2 stage template out of white ABS. After that, I cut the 2 different depth pockets with a plunge router and guide. I had to cut the pockets in the door as well as a new jamb leg. Once I got everything fitted up, I built the rest of the door jamb and stop. Then, I could finally install the door with jamb in the door opening. Cased the door, and all done.
