Spikes not too hard and not too soft. Initially wouldn't stick to the floor of the shower but then got plenty of suction with more water so I didn't have to hold it down. I have very tickly feet so really struggled to use it, but did power through and found that it did give my feet a good scrub. I think I would have liked the spikes to be longer so they could really reach in-between your toes.
